The Supergirl Movie and Superman II: The Richard Donner Crop are not included in this dwelling and are sold separately. This space is also not to be confused with the 14-disc Superman Ultimate Collector’s Edition, which features a ton more additional assert. To appease all the fans, WB is targeting the more affordable Christopher Reeve Collection for the general public and the more expensive Ultimate Collection for the collectors. Despite owning the 2001 DVDs of the Superman movies, I was peaceful inflamed to add these unusual releases to my collection as all of the movies have supplemental material this time around, instead of objective the first film. It’s also fitting that Christopher Reeve’s name has been added to this collection, as it shows how synonymous he’s become with the Superman legacy. His shiny performances brought a larger than life appeal to the Man of Steel that unexcited has yet to be eclipsed. The Superman movies may have their comely fraction of flaws, but they’re detached wildly fascinating even after all these years and worth adding to anyone’s collection!
As many already know Warner location up an exchange program for the first disc in this box position. It seems the origianl theatrical 2.0 (Dolby Surround) mix was not good but instead a 2.0 verison of the unique 5.1. There are many differences between this one and the current 2.0 theatrical one released to theatres upon release. Warner’s exchange program was meant to replace those discs with recent and corrected ones. After waiting nearly 3 months I was forced to call WB and seek information from where mine was. It was then sent to me overnight. But when it arrived I found the 2.0 mix (simply labled ENGLISH) is corrupt. In Dolby Surround 2.0 all dialog is meant to be in the center channel. Insead this release has it coming from all speakers, and if you have a 6.1 or 7.1 set-up it gather really annoying with an echo. If you need to test your disc go to a scene where there is more dialog and no music and a shameful amount of sound effects like when Lois interviews Superman. Then compare the plan is sounds with SUPERMAN III and SUPERMAN IV, which are both 2.0 Dolby Surround. You will discover what I mean. It’s a shame that WB has let this sloppy mistake happen – it should be fixed. Since this is a replacement disc I would imagine its the same version in the re-release of the Silver Box Position as well – even in the SUPERMAN:THE MOVIE sold on its hold. I’ve been reviewing film professionally and have been a consultant for home video for 20 years and haven’t seen a mistake like this in a long time. I tried to connact Warners several times but no one has returned my calls in the past month. Even the Home theater fourm deleted my postings on this. Having interviewed the film’s producer several times I know this soundtrack shouldn’t be like this. This film is considered a classic and should have been given better treatment. The Wanderers is many things…an urban gang drama, juvenile comedy, changing of the times gape and more. It works on all these levels and has become a certified cult classic. At it’s core, the Wanderers is about the final death of the innocence of the 1950’s. The Wanderers are an Italian gang in NY, unruffled clinging to the last vestiges of the 1950’s with their matching satin jackets and grease-backed hair. Early on several members hasten afoul of another gang, the celebrated ‘Baldies’. The Wanderers pick up themselves trapped until a newcomer, the great Perry saves them and is immediately welcomed into the gang by their leader Richie (Ken Wahl) .
The various members of the Wanderers have problems to deal with on their occupy. Richie has gotten his girlfriend, Despie, pregnant, Perry’s mother is an Alcoholic, Turkey wants to join the Baldies and Joey has an abusive father who thinks his son doesn’t measure up. The Wanderers have a verbal war with a murky gang, the Del Bombers, in school and determine to determine things with an veteran rumble.
When the Wanderers cannot acquire any other gangs to wait on them up, Despies father (Dolph Sweet) a neighborhood mob boss steps in and decides to terminate the rumble and have the gangs determine their differences with a football game instead…with a lot of mob money riding on the outcome. The game climaxes when the two gangs, along with the rest in attendance, must join together to fight “The Ducky Boys”, a group of vicious, seemingly homosexuals, who have crashed the game with hundreds of members.
Mixed in with the drama and action is a liberal amount of juvenile buddy comedy as the Wanderers ‘accidently’ bumb into women on the street in order to touch their breasts. This is how the meet Nina (karen Allen) a bohemian girl who Richie becomes infatuated with. There there are drunken parties, games of strip poker, etc. In one memorable scene, the drunken Baldies join the marines.
Through all of this is the theme of the changing of the times. The doo-wop of the 1950’s is now being replaced by folk music. A poignant scene has Richie following Nina until she enters a club where (in sound anyway) Bob Dylan is playing. Richie doesn’t enter as he seems to know that it’s objective not his world. The film also covers the assasination of John Kennedy as the symbolic death of innocence. It is this moment the galvanizes the strained relationship between Despie and Richie.
One wishes that the Ducky Boys had been better explained. They are a creepy group of men..older than the other gangs…who never notify and were actually seen taking Holy Communion in one fraction where Turkey enters their turf by mistake and his killed. What were the Ducky Boys representing? It’s the one mystery of the film.
The Wanderers has a astounding soundtrack of early 1960’s hits including “Soldier Boy”, “Inch Like a Man”, “Runaround Sue”, “Cry”, “Large Girls don’t Yell” and of course the title track.
This is a movie that holds up level-headed after 25 years because it works well on so many different levels. This was mostly a cast of unknowns with Karen Allen perhaps being the most critical star a year after she did ‘Animal House’. An delightful movie from beginning to slay.
“The Wanderers” is a class act and a stylish movie that has a brassy toughness to it that is both infectious and curious. It was probably overshadowed on it’s release by the other gang movie of 1979 “The Warriors”, but “The Wanderers” easily holds an equal footing as an superb period part of working class lives in 1963. The film centres around the lives of a gang of young boys in the Bronx in mid 1963 coming to terms with friendships, school, girls and other gangs. Ken Wahl ( a promising actor who for some reason never quite made it to the grand time!! ) plays a enormous lead as the aloof talking and charismatic, Richie, the leader of the Wanderers. Richie is struggling to believe his gangs strength and status in the local neighbourhood as well as juggling his many relationships with different girlfriends. He meets a young and magnificent Karen Allen whilst out on the streets with his buddies, and from there another relationship develops. Allen plays her role with style, and even though Allen is not a sizable beauty, she has that unmistakable feminine charm, especially when that astounding smile lights up her face.
What makes the movie all the more moving is the diagram it goes tedious the scenes into the home lives and the hopes, fears and dreams of some of the gang members. We gape Joey’s artistic talents achieve down by his fearsome, aggressive father…we stare Turkey struggle with his believe identity within the different gangs…and we ogle Richie forced to engage responsibility for his actions reach the film’s conclusion. Backing the movie up, is a dynamite soundtrack containing some top numbers including “Stand by Me”, “Runaraound Sue”, “Soldier Boy” & of course “The Wanderer”!!
A movie that has charm & talent, and stands up to repeated viewings with ease…if you haven’t seen it already….bag up with “The Wanderers” soon!! Flexpet Fisher Price Infant To Toddler Rocker
This sequel to High School Musical features the same stars as the first film and nearly the same set. Once again, high school hunk Troy (Zac Efron) ponders whether he should stick to the stuff he knows (in this case, the sweet Gabriella), the conniving Sharpay wants him there beside her, and eventually everyone learns that they’re all in this together. OK, that wasn’t heavenly. That’s also the location of “Grease,” and for that matter, nearly every other teen musical.
In this case, though, I couldn’t assist feeling let down. Unlike the modern (High School Musical (Encore Edition) ), this film breathes not a breath of novel air. It is, in essence, unbiased a clone of its mama. If you loved the first film you’d like this one — it has the same feel-good bounce — but I bet you won’t be watching it as often.
So why four stars? The music. It’s better! “You Are The Music In Me” is a trusty, catchy duet by Gabriella and Troy (Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron) that uses a gospel chorus to rise above nearly everything ever cranked out by today’s dime-a-dozen pop tarts. “Everyday” (also Gabriella and Troy) is in the same vein, a Britney-esque bouncer with a finale that seems literally straight out of a dark church. “I Don’t Dance” boogies along like an broken-down big-band number, while the staccato boy-band rocker “Bet On It” (Troy) recalls the best of Michael Jackson. Finally, “All for One” is a hand-clapping shout-out that hints, a slight, at Sheryl Crow’s “Soak in the Sun.” The soundtrack is available here: High School Musical 2.
Why “Extended Edition’? Because an additional music scene has been integrated into the film: the musical number Troy and Sharpay rehearse. The scene features Sharpay playing a pineapple princess looking for her “modern fish prince” in the Polynesian fantasy “Humuhumunukunukua’pua’a.” Bonus features include a sing-along feature, rehearsal footage and music videos.
One final note: Though this DVD is in fullscreen, the Blu-ray version is widescreen.
Having been a Disney fan all my life, I always witness forward to modern releases. With the Success of High School Musical I wondered how they could top this production. They did though. HSM2 is thoroughly delicious with grand acting by all the cast and the musical numbers are out of this world. The energy exibited along with the fun they seemed to have during the production made it even more delectable. It is a amazing production and I recommend it for anybody who enjoys Disney. The latest entry in the Harry Potter saga could be retitled Fast Times at Hogwarts, where finding a date to the winter ball is nearly as terrifying as worrying about Lord Voldemort’s return. Thus, the young wizards’ entry into puberty (and discovery of the opposite sex) opens up a rich mining field to balance out the dark content in the fourth movie (and the stories are only going to get darker). Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral) handily takes the directing reins and eases his young cast through awkward growth spurts into tru young actors. Harry (Daniel Radcliffe, more sure of himself) has his first girl crush on fellow student Cho Chang (Katie Leung), and has his first big fight with best bud Ron (Rupert Grint). Meanwhile, Ron’s underlying romantic tension with Hermione (Emma Watson) comes to a head over the winter ball, and when she makes one of those girl-into-woman Cinderella entrances, the boys’ reactions indicate they’ve all crossed a threshold.
But don’t worry, there’s plenty of wizardry and action in Goblet of Fire. When the deadly Triwizard Tournament is hosted by Hogwarts, Harry finds his name mysteriously submitted (and chosen) to compete against wizards from two neighboring academies, as well as another Hogwarts student. The competition scenes are magnificently shot, with much-improved CGI effects (particularly the underwater challenge). And the climactic confrontation with Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes, in a brilliant bit of casting) is the most thrilling yet. Goblet, the first installment to get a PG-13 rating, contains some violence as well as disturbing images for kids and some barely shrouded references at sexual awakening (Harry’s bath scene in particular). The 2 1/2-hour film, lean considering it came from a 734-page book, trims out subplots about house-elves (they’re not missed) and gives little screen time to the standard crew of the other Potter films, but adds in more of Britain’s finest actors to the cast, such as Brendan Gleeson as Mad-Eye Moody and Miranda Richardson as Rita Skeeter. Michael Gambon, in his second round as Professor Dumbledore, still hasn’t brought audiences around to his interpretation of the role he took over after Richard Harris died, but it’s a small smudge in an otherwise spotless adaptation. –Ellen A. Japanese anime–animated movies–have a reputation for being ultraviolent and ultracool. And there’s a lot of cool to be found in Trigun: The $$60,000,000,000 Man (those two dollar signs aren’t a typo–money, in the Trigun world, is counted in double dollars). If you liked the way Nicolas Cage’s coat flapped in the wind in Face/Off, you’ll get plenty of that as Vash the Stampede, notorious ace gunman, walks through the desert landscape of an alien planet with two suns. Vash is so feared and famous that there’s a $$60 billion price on his head. He’s destroyed entire cities, yet no one has ever been killed in his rampages–though rumors paint him as a ruthless murderer. However, in truth, Vash is a goofy buffoon who can step out of the way of bullets (which may have inspired The Matrix) but who never actually shoots anyone–in fact, on several occasions, he pointedly chooses not to. The whole sensibility of Trigun is surprisingly innocent; it’s like a wildly hip Saturday morning cartoon. There’s a fair amount of over-the-top violence, but it’s pretty harmless, more silly than extreme. Most of the stories–for this isn’t a single movie, but a collection of four episodes from an ongoing series–all have earnest morals, most of which are about peace, equality, and being humane. Besides, how can you not like a cartoon in which two main characters are Meryl Styfe and Milly Thompson, disaster investigators for the Bernardelli Insurance Society? Dubbed in English, Trigun is frivolous and very entertaining. –Bret Fetzer
